Our ’68 Impala SS project car, Project FearleSS, is coming along nicely. The body is straightened out and looking clean. We have an engine and transmission sourced and ready to be dropped in, and now it’s time to turn our attention toward the inside. When it came time to choose an instrument panel, we knew we wanted something that would keep its classic look with the benefits of modern technology. So we called Dakota Digital and ordered one of its latest products—the VHX-68C-IMP instrument panel.

Since its founding, Dakota Digital has worked hard to establish themselves as a leader in the digital instrumentation market. Dakota Digital prides themselves on the fact that almost every aspect of its manufacturing is handled in-house at their facility in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to ensure its products meet the highest possible standards.

A loose acronym for “Vehicle Hybrid Instrument Systems,” Dakota Digital’s VHX line of instrument panels are available as both direct-fit, bolt-in units, or universal options. The VHX line is a popular choice for lowriders, hot rodders, and classic car gearheads alike. Using an outboard control module that can be tucked away for a cleaner look or placed in a convenient, easy-to-access area, the control module eliminates the need for bundles of wiring, allowing for a simpler installation.

The VHX-68C-IMP unit is available with either silver or black alloy faces, and have red, blue, or white lighting. Combining analog gauges with modern LCD digital message centers, our unit displays speedometer, tachometer, water temperature, oil pressure, voltmeter, and fuel level in analog format for a more classic look. The digital message centers give the user a more modern feel by providing them with additional information such as odometer, clock, gear indicator, service meter, and performance data such as 0-60 time, 1/4-mile time/speed, and high-speed/rpm recall.
