Nestled between Phoenix and Tempe, Arizona, we came across the quaint town of Guadalupe. This small town located within Maricopa County is comprised of 90 percent Yaqui Indians and simply appeared as an inconspicuous place where not too many things would be happening. To our surprise, we had stumbled across one of Arizona’s biggest local car shows. For 15 years, Miguel Alvarado and the Intimidations Guadalupe Car Club had been hosting this local free show and with over 300 cars, bikes, and pedal cars; and this is anything but your usual car show.
“We put this show on for our community in hopes of introducing the children to the custom car culture,” Alvarado says. Each year, Arizona’s top car clubs—Old School, Majestics, Groupe, Swift, and Nokturnal—come in full force to represent their city. “It’s the Arizona lowrider scene that is really responsible for making this happen,” Alvarado adds.
This day featured something for everyone. The infamous actor Danny De La Paz and rapper Troublesome were on hand to sign autographs for all their fans. The event featured live entertainment, including mariachis and local bands, as well as some of the best local cuisine. As the sun set on this sunny Arizona summer day, the celebration continued with an award ceremony and face painting for the kids. We know that this family friendly event will continue to grow throughout the years. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next year.
