To some, the sweltering Texas summer heat is “no picnic” and they would much prefer spending the weekend inside and air-conditioned home with a glass of iced tea. For these hearty North Texans, the mid-August heat only adds ambiance to a weekend of “good times” at the Good Times DFW Chapter’s annual Picnic and Cruise. The two-day event kicked off with Saturday’s “Cruise Night,” which started its route at Echo Lake Park in Ft. Worth, Texas. Escorted by Cowtown’s finest law enforcement, nearly 200 lowriders, Rat rods, hot rods, and classic Bombs cruised the 10-mile trek throughout the historical Stockyard District with the cruise ending at the Coyote Drive-In’s reserved area. Before the double feature started, cruise awards were presented to Oscar, of Estilo CC, Dallas, for Best Car, Jose, of Cowboys CC for Best Truck, Victor, of Veteranos CC for Best Bomb, and the mega line-up of Ole Skool Ryders for the Rolling Deep Award.

Day two found the DFW chapter of Good Times CC back at Echo Lake Park, presenting their third annual picnic. With support from the host club and the area’s lowrider organizations, club president Joe Trevino spearheaded the family oriented event. “Our picnics are not just a chill-n-grill, we have ongoing activities for the adults and our kids, from water games to tug-o-war,” Joe explains. As for the cars, the park was at full capacity with DFW’s low-lows, along with an entry all the way from Tennessee! Good Times C.C. worldwide came in strong to support its Texas chapter; with members cruising in from the club’s California, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Utah, and Indiana chapters. After an afternoon of cool cars, cold beer, delicious carnitas, and family fun, awards went out to some of the picnic’s best. These awards included Prominent CC for Club Tug-o-War, Skim, of Majestics, North Texas, for Best Car, Jose, of Kings CC for Best Truck, Ernie, of Creations CC for Best Bomb, and Best Club Participation went out to Jokers CC.

In making this successful event their largest to date, Good Times-DFW expresses a special thanks to Dream On Photography, Mike The Cholo DJ, United Lowrider Association of DFW, United Lowrider Council of Ft. Worth, and the Good Times CC worldwide family. Paz, Tejas
