We all plant our Lowrider roots in a different garden, and for New York firefighter Terrance Keeby, his seeds were sown in the mini-truck scene. “I got bored with that scene and I ended up getting the urge to build a classic car, so the hunt for an Impala started,” Terrance explains. Having an uncle in California gave Terrance the opportunity to spend many summers there, giving him a glimpse of rare autos that were seldom seen in New York. “I used to see them all the time in California, but I just didn’t know where or how to get one in New York.”
In 2010, Terrance ended up buying a ’63 convertible but after attending the Lowrider Magazine Super Show in Vegas and seeing Mister Cartoon’s ’61, he decided that he wanted a ’61 instead. Luckily, it didn’t take long for him to find and purchase a ’61 bubble top. Indecision again took its toll on Terrance, as he suddenly found himself reluctant to get started. “I took it to David’s Impalas to have it built but once I had it there, I hesitated on having him start the build since what I really wanted was ’61 rag,” Terrance says with a smile. David just so happened to own a ’61 convertible, and after being persuaded by a persistent Terrance, David ended up selling it to him. Once the deal was made, the build started as David took on the majority of the build including the sheet metal work, bodywork, paint, and assembly of the car.
While it seems that Terrance was picky about his choice in car and build, he had good reason to be; there were high standards that he felt he had to live up to. “I’ve known Marvin and Bean (Drastic members) since I was fifteen years old,” he says. “I never built a Lowrider, so I was never part of the club, but I was close with them. I knew once I built a Lowrider, that it had to be right because I was going to be a member of Drastic.” Beyond his car club aspirations, Terrance wanted his build to represent the East Coast as well. “I’m a New York City Firefighter and I wanted to put a piece of me into the car and that’s why I have the 9/11 tribute,” he explains sincerely. “I set out to build something that people who originated the game would like; I didn’t want people to look at it and say ‘that’s a nice car for a New York car.’ I wanted people from anywhere to be able to appreciate it.” Terrance has certainly lived up to the standards he set for himself. “Rotten Apple” is the first New York car to ever be featured on the cover of Lowrider Magazine and to take a trophy at the Lowrider Magazine Super Show in Las Vegas!
“I want to thank Marvin and my whole Drastic auto club for their support,” says Terrance. “A special thanks also goes out to my wife for allowing this project to take over our lives for eight months, and to David for building me a bad ass car.”

Engine: David’s Impalas of Lawndale, NC., installed the 2000 LS1 engine, 700R tranny, Street & Performance serpentine chrome kit, Lokar dip stick/throttle cables, MSD red plug wires, Optima yellow top (painted red), and custom aluminum radiator.
Body/Paint: David’s Impalas of Lawndale, NC., handled the bodywork and then also sprayed the chili pepper red on the ’61. Danny D of Baldwin Park, CA., added some fine lines while Marvin Shivnarine of Artist Technicians in Queens, NY., added the NYC and 9/11 tribute murals on the LS1 engine covers.
Interior: David’s Impalas also took care of installing the interior, Dakota Digital and custom fiberglass kick panels.
Sound System: David’s Impalas installed the Kenwood head unit, JL Audio amps and speakers.
Chrome: Skim at Skimpala
Setup: Jason Browning of JB Machine in North Carolina installed the two aircraft pumps with two Pesco 777’s, four Adex dumps and four Optima batteries. Unlimited Suspension & Chassis in Pasco, WA wrapped and molded the frame. Marvin Shivnarine of Artist Technicians in Queens, NY candy-patterned the frame.
Tires: Firestone FR380’s.
Wheels: 13-inch Dayton’s.
