When you think of Kentucky, a few things come to mind. Among them of course, are Kentucky Fried Chicken, the Louisville Slugger, and Papa John’s pizza. If you’re a car guy like us, you’ll think of our friends at Cool Cars, The Hill Billy Hoppers and the famous Street Rod Nationals. Kentucky definitely has its share of automotive culture and we were happy to also find one of our own riding slow and low through the Kentucky streets! While we were out in Kentucky for the Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, we spotted car enthusiast Lee Huff, Jr.’s 1963 Impala, and we knew we had to shoot it.

Lee’s buddy, Russ Pugh found the car in Hamilton, Ohio as he had been helping Lee search for the perfect project. After a few calls, Lee was on his way to pick up his project within a few days of initially reaching out to the owner. This clean car turned into a two-year build, featuring a custom paint job with crazy detail that really drew our attention to ’63. The paint job, done by Josh Culver of Culver Customs was shot in sections, or stages, during the two-year project. The multi-green, candy painted Impala features fades, pearls and pin stripe work that really ties the paint job together.

Since Lee wanted to lay out his car, he sent it to Jason Caranto, who worked together with Lee to build a custom trunk compartment. The fully wrapped frame done by Brent, of Pitbull, was hooked up with a spacious trunk that houses 8-batteries and 4 Black Magic pumps, two amplifiers and 2 12-inch Infinity woofers. The whole setup was hard-lined in number #8 or 1/2-inch tubing. The trunk space was dressed with panels that were painted to match the exterior of the car, giving the Impala a really clean, detailed feel.

Lee certainly hit the Lowrider lottery all right, christening his Impala, “Jackpot,” and making one of Lee’s automotive dreams a reality in the process. Give this one a look, and you’ll see why this custom Impala caught our attention.
