Not many people come straight out of the box with a flawless show car. Usually, the process is long and tedious involving several “do-overs.” For twenty-nine year-old Angel Soto of Pueblo, Colorado, he did just that. Born and raised in Pueblo, he was introduced to the Lowrider culture by his family and friends. He knew what path he wanted to take but just didn’t have the canvas to start his dream; that is until a close friend told him about a 1965 Chevy Impala for sale that was used as a stereo demo vehicle at a sound shop. Within days, Angel had a new addition to the Soto family.
Since the Impala was built for a stereo shop, the engine was never maintained. Angel, his father, and friend, Carlos Cordova, removed the motor and chromed it from top to bottom. They then installed the turbo 350 to give the Chevy some more giddy-up, before handling all of the necessary body work. The body was then stripped and parts were sent out to El Paso Plating for the chrome accents. John and Brandon Arnold, from Hot Rod Paint & Fabrication, prepped the body for paint before coating the entire Impala in PPG Vibrance with aquamarine metallic.
Angel’s next mission was to bring the Impala closer to the ground. Going the safer route, he enlisted Jim and Jerry Champion, of Champion Rod & Customs in Pueblo, Colorado, to install a complete air-ride system that includes a chrome tank and hard lines to keep the Impala looking fresh, Lowrider style! Angel, of Angel’s Upholstery in Alamosa, Colorado, was given the task of revitalizing the cabin. Light gray leather was used with dark gray piping around the seats, while a padded dash was added with stitching and designs throughout.
A proud member of Rollerz Only C.C., Angel has strived to make his very first build something that would be recognized and respected. He achieved that goal at the latest Denver Lowrider show, gathering his first big trophy in the process. Angel wishes to thank his car club, Rollerz Only, and his two brothers, Brandon Soto and Michael Marquez for all the help. His wife, Melissa, and their three children also receive much appreciation from Angel, as they have always supported him and his Lowrider passion. Since Angel came onto the scene so strongly with his first custom build, we will definitely be on the lookout for his next!

Engine: The original Chevy 283 was completely rebuilt and powered by a new turbo 350 transmission. Chrome Edelbrock signature valve covers were added along with the Edelbrock carburetor 550 cfm. A polished aluminum intake manifold was installed. A HEI electronic ignition was added as well. Angel, his father and Carlos Cordova, handled the entire motor work.
Body/Paint: John & Brandon Arnold, of Hot Rod Paint & Fabrication, handled all the bodywork and added layers of PPG Vibrance Aquamarine over a Black basecoat which allows the paint to switch color in the sunlight. El Paso Plating handled all the chrome plating on the Chevy.
Suspension: Jim & Jerry Champion, at Champion Rod & Customs, in Pueblo, Colorado, were responsible for changing the Impala’s stance. They added a full air ride system that includes two Viair compressors and a chrome plated seven-gallon tank. All the air lines were given the hard-line treatment.
Interior: Angel, at Angel’s Upholstery, in Alamosa, Colorado, added the light gray leather with dark gray piping throughout the seats. The dashboard was padded and painted.
Sound System: Al and his crew, at Al’s Creative Auto Sound, in Pueblo, Colorado added the bumps, starting with the Alpine CDA-105 head unit that runs to the MB Quart components all powered by Rockford Fosgate amplifiers and three ten-inch Rockford Fosgate subwoofers handle the boom.
Wheels: 13-inch triple-gold Galaxy Wire Wheels with bowtie knockoffs.
Tires: P155/80R13 Multi-star touring tires.
