Henry & Yolanda
1951 Chevy Pickup
Viejitos C.C. SJ Chapter
In this issue’s From the Hood, we are showcasing the engine compartment of Henry and Yolanda Palacios’ 1951 Chevy pickup. The pickup was originally purchased for Yolanda, as Henry wanted his wife to be able to show off a car alongside his at the car shows they attended together. After looking for a while, they found the truck in central California and purchased it for $2,000. After purchasing it, they immediately began the grueling process of tearing down the truck and rebuilding it was a task that would take the couple 3 years to complete.
The focus of this column, the engine, was replaced with a rebuilt ’58 Chevy inline 6, which was custom-painted to match the outside of the truck. Henry had a custom built Air Breather and Firewall cover installed as well, for aesthetic purposes. When the custom parts were finished, they were assembled with the headers and valve cover, which were engraved by Cortez Engraving. After the engraving was done, Henry shipped the finished pieces out to be chromed and gold plated by Speedy’s Platting and Polishing. After all the plating was done, everything was reassembled in the engine compartment, and the turnkey hum of the heart of the ’51 was finally heard. Now, Henry and his wife, Yolanda, enjoy displaying this impeccable truck at all of the car shows they attend. The proud couple can finally stand back, and watch the spectators’ reaction, as they catch a glimpse of this detailed beauty up close for the first time.
