While out in New York for the Drastics picnic, I ran across this superclean 1964 rag. From afar it looked cherry, but I went in close for a better visual and let’s just say it did not disappoint. Whereas many cars look good from far and far from good, this Impala definitely held its weight in more ways than one.

I soon met the owner, Ricky Persuad, who it turns out drove out from Toronto, Canada. After a good conversation, he talked about picking up the car just three years ago and as with most project cars it wasn’t in the state that it’s in now. The car had rotted floors and equally shot quarter-panels, but even though it needed a full restoration Ricky was able to see past the rot and knew the car had potential.

After some extensive bodywork and panel replacements, the rag was doused in multiple layers of black paint and then reassembled, making sure all the lines matched. Once complete, it was dropped off to Switches & Thangs where it received a full frame wrap and setup install. Jeff Forgione installed two double-whammy chrome pumps, ran the hard lines, installed the stereo system, and paneled off the trunk.

Now that he had a superclean rolling chassis, he needed a new motor, so he opted for a fresh GM crate 350 motor. While Ricky is no mechanic, he has been around cars long enough to have built up his own mechanical prowess, so he took to his toolbox and installed the motor, transmission, and all the accessories you see here by himself. In all, the three-year passion project turned out a classic lowrider, and it’s yet another notch in the belt for the lowrider game that hails out of Tdot.
