For this month’s Shop Talk, we stopped in to visit the good folks at Cars, Inc. headquarters in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Cars, Inc. is no stranger to the pages of Lowrider magazine, and they have built a reputation for their quality reproductions of Chevrolet parts for classic cars. They are also a key player in the industry with their interior kits and reproduction sheet metal parts that fit to OEM factory specs.
We have worked on projects with Cars, Inc. in the past, and have seen firsthand the quality of their products and the attention to detail that the company maintains when introducing classic vehicle parts. This dedication is evident in the company’s humble beginnings; Cars, Inc. started by selling parts at the automotive swap meets, and has maintained a focus on producing quality aftermarket parts to grow into the industry heavyweight they are today. The attitude of Cars, Inc. is also evident in the company’s manufacturing process. Each of their products is made one-at-a-time in the USA, utilizing skilled American workers who have a passion for their craft, a respect for those who restore classic Chevys, and a love for keeping alive the rich tradition of American Chevrolets driving, racing, lowriding, and cruising across the USA and the rest of the world.
Part of the company’s success is due to their being located so close to Detroit and the old GM plants, which helped Cars, Inc. purchase the tooling necessary for accurate parts reproduction. This helps to ensure the OEM standards that you are accustomed to purchasing. During our visit, we got to see manufacturing of the Cars, Inc. interior kits that are all individually built and sewn by hand. We were also able to do a side-by-side comparison of the overseas sheetmetal and see how the American made sheetmetal is as every bit as good as the factory metal.
After visiting Cars, Inc. Michigan, we learned that they have thousands of dollars of NOS interior insert materials available for several models. They also have a variety of parts for several Chevrolet models that include the Impala, Monte Carlo, El Camino, Tri-Five Bel Air, Camaro, Chevy Trucks, ’51-’54 Chevrolets and Chevelles. If you have one of these cars and need parts for them, make sure to pay them a visit at either of the company’s two locations and when you stop by, and make sure to let them know that you saw them in Lowrider magazine!
