While many contend that Latin rap is nothing more than a fad, the record number of new artists, groups, sales and popularity would prove otherwise. Latin rap has hit an all-time high and many old schoolers in the game are now reaping the rewards of their hard work.
One such group is 310 West Entertainment. Though they’re newer than a lot of other labels, they’ve created a buzz that’s hitting the streets harder than crack cocaine did in the late ’80s. From street corners to Lowrider Magazine Tour shows, 310 West has a street team that literally bombards the scene with handbills and appearances everywhere from here to the East Coast. Last year, we ran into them at the Latin Rap Conference, and this year, things are no different as they’re steady on the grind.
Executive produced by Don Benzo, 310 West’s flagship artist is Spanky Loco. With dozens of CD releases that have hit the streets, they operate with swift integrity and lay down track after track of war stories and struggles that they found early on in the streets.
The 310 West beats are heavy and the verses that they lace are as unique as they are powerful. They tell true-to-life stories that they’ve encountered on the streets, and at the San Bernardino, California, Lowrider show, loyal supporters showed their love back.
The 310 West army currently has a battalion of artists under their banner, and with crowd favorites such as Huero Snipes, Big Crime, Woody Loco, Mac Muscle, OG Lil’ Solo and many others, it’s just a matter of time before they grow their organization into an unstoppable force to reckon with.
While we don’t claim ourselves to be experts in the field of music, we can tell you that the music coming from 310 West works and that they’re for real. There’s a certain safety in numbers, and when the streets talk, it’s because it’s genuine, and please believe that the streets are talking.
Pick up any one of Spanky Loco’s CDs and you’ll find a little something for everyone. Take Loco Life, for example. This CD is filled with tracks to creep with (“Boyz In The Hood”), music to roll with and tracks that’ll simply make you think (“I Can’t Get Enough”). But for those of you who want to experience the streets through a voice that’s been there and back, then pop in any one of Spanky’ CDs to live a day in the life of a real G.
