The holiday season always brings out the best in people and it becomes a great time of the year to help those who are less fortunate. Rolling Deep 4 Charities, the Teamster Horsemen Chapter 42, and Swat on Patrol held their 6th Annual Christmas Toy Run this past December. The Toy Drive took place at the Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights, California, on the corner of 1st and Boyle.
This Annual Toy Run used to be called the Ramona Gardens Christmas Toy Drive and was established by Rolling Deep 4 Charities (RD4C). Due to the overwhelming responses and positive feedback that it received, the event was relocated to a larger location at the Mariachi Plaza. This charitable organization, RD4C, was founded by Martin Resendez in 2003 with the sole purpose of making a difference in people’s lives by helping those in need.
This year’s Toy Run was one of the largest toy drives held in Los Angeles. More than 300 lowriders and 650 motorcycle riders came, and over 4,000 toys and bikes were donated to the children of Boyle Heights and the surrounding areas. Each child present received a toy or a bicycle. Bikes were given to the children that worked hard in school and provided proof of outstanding grades.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, as well as other city officials, supported the toy run and their efforts in giving back to the community. Many were involved and contributed to making this event possible. Techniques LA, Groupe ELA, Klique ELA, Old Memories So LA, and Antiques, as well as other supporting car clubs, donated over 300 bicycles for the children.
Teamster Horsemen Chapter 42 hauled the toys in their 53-foot big rig and Hooman Toyota of Long Beach provided a stake bed to haul the giveaway bicycles. Other notable supporters were Law Tigers, Laidlaw Harley-Davidson, and The Boo Foundation, and the Techniques Car Club organized the car club participation and procession from La Placita Olvera in Los Angeles to Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights.
Special guest Emilio Rivera from “Sons of Anarchy” and Santa were also there to show support and contribute their time to the festivities. Due to the generosity of all those who were involved, the event was a huge success and many thankful children went home happy with their new bikes and toys.
