In celebrating the 20th anniversary of the 1993 exhibit at the Laguna Art Museum entitled Kustom Kulture: Von Dutch, Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, Robert Williams and Others, C.R. Stecyk III, Paul Frank and Greg Escalante presented the Kustom Kulture II at the Huntington Beach Art Center. The 1993 show proved to be a crucial part in the lowbrow art, as it brought many of the underground artists to display their artwork at legitimate museums. Many of the artists featured had been producing the ’50s- and ’60s-inspired art for over twenty years but it had never been available for the mainstream public so see. The Kustom Kulture 1 exhibit is credited for reviving the greaser/Rat rod era to the newer generation and inspiring them to pick up wrenches and paintbrushes.
We know that this event also had some type of influence in lowrider artists of today and so we felt it was only right for us to attend the anniversary event and bring this art to you!
