Central California enjoyed its first Lowrider Magazine-sanctioned show in years this past May when L.G. Productions presented the Fresno Cali Showdown at the Fresno County Fairgrounds. The event brought in lowriders from throughout the San Joaquin Valley and beyond. Sponsors for the one-day show included Budweiser, radio station B95, Jay’s Alarm & Audio, Rockford Fosgate and Alpine.
Lowrider Hall of Famer and show promoter “El Larry” Gonzales wanted to do something different this year so he took this show old school. The event featured cars, girls and a live band playing throughout the day to keep the people grooving. At one point, they even conducted a tug-of-war contest between some of the different clubs that showed up. Having a few audio sponsors involved made the perfect setting for a sound-off competition and there were close to 40 entries.
The cars came in from all over-from Southern California to the Bay Area. Fresno served as the central point for several clubs that came out to support the indoor/outdoor event. It’s been a while since we’ve been to central Califas so it was good to see old clubs as well as new ones out there representing.
L.G. Productions confirmed that there were more than 50 clubs representing from throughout the Golden State, including Sangre Latina, Aztec Image, Suavecito, New Friends, Skanless, Wired Illusions, Undivided, New Breed, Touch of Style, Madera’s Finest, Blvd Kings, Estilo, Low Conspiracy, East Side, Carnales Unidos and Majestics of Delano, California.
With 500-plus exhibitors and more than 6,000 spectators, the Fresno Cali Showdown was bigger and better than ever this year, and will only keep growing in the future. L.G. Productions has informed us that next year’s Fresno date has already been confirmed for May 17.
El Larry thanks everyone for putting up with the unexpected heat this year. The average May temperature in Fresno is usually around 85 degrees, but they broke a 30-year record in 2008 by hitting 103 degrees, and they still pulled off a great show! Thanks for having us as your guests and we hope to see you at the next lowrider event in central Cali.
